Local communities are fighting against desertification in Lake Chad region.

29 October 2017, Merea, Chad – Men and women alike are participating in the rehabilitation of Lake Chad ecosystems. Watering seedlings has become a daily activity in Merea. In the past 50 years, Lake Chad basin shrank from 25,000 square kilometers to 2,000 square kilometers. 30 million people living around the lake in Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad are adversely affected. With its partners UNDP carries out development projects focusing on natural resource management and the rehabilitation of Lake Chad ecosystems.
